My Year in Reading 2025
Hannah CameronShare
This is for my fellow bookworms - want to know what I've been reading in 2025 so you can find more books to add to your TBR?
I keep a list here in my journal that I update throughout the year. You have permission to be nosy!
I read a variety of genres, and I'm currently working through my Kindle backlist, so it'll be an entertaining jumble.
1. XOXO by Axie Oh: I've been in a reading slump for the past few months, in combination with work being much busier through Q4. I decided I'd start the year off with a YA book to ease me back into reading again, and it was a fun and lighthearted choice for that.
2. Birnam Wood by Eleanor Catton: I was given this book at Christmas by a family friend who is both a writer and a reader. I recognised the cover as one that I'd seen on bookstagram, so I was curious to begin reading it early in the year. Clocking in at over 400 pages, this book was a fair bit longer than I usually read, and it was a bit daunting that it was written as three acts with no clear chapters. I enjoyed seeing how this story unfolded.
3. The One That Got Away by Mike Gayle: this was a freebie short story with Kindle First Reads, around 100 pages. It was an enjoyable enough read, though it hasn't been super memorable to me.
4. When Dimple Met Rishi by Sandhya Menon: This is a YA romance. Very sweet, good fun, and lighthearted.
5. Hollow Kingdom by Kira Jane Buxton: A post-apocalyptic novel told from the perspective of a domesticated crow, whose knowledge of the world comes from TV, and with a love for Cheetos. This one was right up my street - it's been a while since I read a post-apcalyptic book (and never from a crow's perspective before now!) Definitely recommend if you like humour, zombies, and pets navigating the end-of-the-world as we know it!
6. Out on a Limb by Hannah Bonam-Young: this romance begins with a Halloween party, two people dressed as pirates...and the one-night-stand between them. Resulting in an unplanned pregnancy, Win and Bo end up being in each other's lives more than originally planned! They were so adorable and supportive of one another, and I loved their banter together. I think this is the first time I've read a romance with characters who have limb differences, and I thought it was handled with care.
I'm currently reading: nothing - hoping to start something new soon!
I've added links to the books on Bookshop.org and Amazon. When you buy books from these links, I may earn a small commission from Amazon or from Bookshop.org, at no additional cost to you.
