How to Celebrate Mother's Day

Mother's Day Cards
Firstly, get your mum a Mother's Day card. It doesn't have to be Mother's Day specific, it can be a just to say, all-occasion, or blank card.
My favourite option in the Looksee shop is the Banners You're The Best Card, below:
Need some help with what to write in your Mother's Day card? Check out this blog post I've written with some ideas you can use to save you time.
Mother's Day Presents
Generally, Birthdays and Christmas are the times of year for larger presents and experiences, so consider a smaller present for Mother's Day. If you celebrate Father's Day too, it's good practice to keep things reasonably fair between both days.
For my mum, I've given anything from chocolates to keyrings to flowers over the years - I don't live close to her, so easily postable gifts are ideal for me. Once you have your present, wrap it up nicely and stick a gift tag on it (after all, we don't want her thinking your lovely present was from your sister!)
Looksee enamel pins are a very postable gift, and they come presented in an eco-friendly fully recyclable gift box so they're ready to gift. They're on a Buy 1, Get 1 Half Price, so you could get two different designs for your mum if you can't choose! Or you could get one for your mum, and one for your mother-in-law. Or, you could get one for your mum and one for yourself so you can match!
The fox enamel pin is the perfect gift for someone who is clever, full of mischief, and playful! You can get this design as a black fox enamel pin, or a ginger fox enamel pin.
The deer enamel pin is a lovely gift for someone who loves reading and stories, since the deer appears in many stories around the world and is often an enchantment for princesses in folk and fairy tales. You can get this design as a blue deer enamel pin, a black deer enamel pin, or a pink deer enamel pin.
The rabbit enamel pin is a thoughtful gift for a nature-lover, and is symbolic of peace, intellect, empathy, and fertility. This symbolism also makes it a fantastic gift for a mama-to-be, or for a pal who is trying to conceive. You can get this design as a pink rabbit enamel pin, a black rabbit enamel pin, or a blue rabbit enamel pin.
I've also put together a list of my top book recommendations for mums here, so be sure to check it out if your mum loves reading!
How to make Mum feel Special on Mother's Day
Often, mothers are the caregivers for the entire family. In many households, they bear the brunt of the housework and the emotional labour, and end up with no time left for themselves.
Mother's Day is an opportunity to show our mums how much we appreciate everything they do. The best way we can make her feel special is to pay attention to what she enjoys, and give her that on Mother's Day.
Once you've wrapped your present, and written your card, consider whether she might enjoy any of the following in addition:
- Breakfast in bed (preferably without setting the fire alarm off, burning the toast, or making a mess of the kitchen!)
- Let her have a lie in - she will particularly appreciate this if she has little ones who wake her up at 5am every day.
- Go to the park - a walk in the park works well regardless of budget or the age of her children! This would be fab with adult kids and grandchildren. A great opportunity for a family get together, pointing out all the dogs in cute jumpers, maybe even stopping for a little picnic overlooking the duck pond if the weather isn't too chilly! Bonus points if you bring a thermos of hot chocolate with you.
- Give her a call if you're not seeing her in person - if she has the time for a natter, a phone call can be a great way to connect and spend time together.
- Family Movie Night - time to watch mum's favourite film, and if it's a musical then the whole family has to sing along (I don't make the rules...!)
Whatever you do, try to consider what will make her feel most loved and appreciated, and try not to create extra work for her! Organise it from start to finish, don't make her organise or book anything, and don't make her wash up or clean up after the little ones have created havoc in the kitchen making breakfast in bed.
If you're not yet sorted out for Mother's Day, buy her a card here, buy her a gift here, and buy gift tags here.
I hope you've enjoyed the ideas I've shared. If you've found it helpful, please consider supporting Looksee by buying a card or signing up for our emails.
